Q: What is VeaMea?
A: Software for Secure Video calling, chat and desktop sharing for Anywhere to Anywhere communication
Q: How does it work?
A: VeaMea is software that you download on your PC/ tablet/ mobile, to vcall or call, chat, show your availability or share desktops with friends and colleagues
Q: How many people can use it?
A: You can have up to 16 at a time in a “meeting”[everyone is live on screen] or thousands in a “conference” [up to 16 presenters and thousands of viewers who are not on screen]
Q: How long has it been around?
A: The software was initially developed for satellites over 15 years ago and has been continually updated to take advantage of new technologies
Q: How is this different from Skype?
A: VeaMea was built from day one as a business communication tool, so it provides higher quality audio and video, the highest (non-classified) security through an industry standard model, uses less bandwidth, has extensive IT management tools, provides video calling from any user to any group of users, and can interconnect with a variety of other systems including traditional videoconferencing (H323)
Q: How is this different from my Polycom room system?
A: Easier to use, less expensive, more flexible, and it works when you want it to
Q: How do I make a call in VeaMea?
A: VeaMea is “Presence-based,” so you have a buddy list on your desktop showing current availability. Just click to call or chat.
Q: What kinds of connections can I make in VeaMea?
A: Text chat, Audio, Video, Desktop Sharing (with Control Sharing and Annotation), Virtual Flipchart, Testing/Polling, File Transfer, Watch recorded sessions
Q: Can it connect to other videoconferencing systems?
A: Yes, using our H.323, SIP and XMPP gateways
Q: How much does it cost?
A: We offer a free trial, so it starts at $0.  If you like it and want it for your organization, the cost depends on the features your organization desires.
Q: Does it use peer to peer technology?
A: No, we use client-server technology with the server based in our cloud
Q: What is a Gateway and why do you use them?
A: A Gateway translates between VeaMea’s internal language and the languages used by other systems.  We use them to enable our clients to communicate with different types of systems, for example to bring a phone call into a video conference.
Q: Why do you offer free trials?
A: With so much hype around videoconferencing products, we believe people need to see it to believe it.  We think giving it away is better than a Super Bowl ad!
Q: What is different between the free and paid versions?
A: The free version gives you an end user account in a public domain which is good if you don’t mind being searchable by other users.  The paid version gives you a private domain for your organization, can be actively managed by IT setting bandwidth contraints, groups, sub-domains, profiles, integrating with existing company systems, etc.
Q: Are my calls private, or can someone listen in without me knowing?
A: Even with the free version your calls are completely private.
Q: Will I get echo on VeaMea?
A: Echo can be complicated.  A variety of factors can cause it and there are a variety of solutions.  We think the best solution is to invest in an echo cancelling microphone.  After that, there are a number of things that we can do in our software to help reduce echo, and also somethings you can do in your setup.  To better understand, read this blog post: Top 5 Ways to Stop Echo on Your Video Conference
Q: My company locks down my PC so I can’t download software, what can I do?
A: VeaMea can be installed without Administrator access.  The main difference is that the desktop sharing will not be as fast.  Another alternative is to ask your support desk to install the software for you (using the Admin account) so you get the best possible experience.
Q: My network administrator won’t open firewall ports for videoconferencing, can I still use VeaMea?
A: VeaMea uses ports 80 and 443, the same as for internet browsing and secure internet browsing.  As long as these two ports are open and your network does not have software to shut down data streaming, VeaMea will work just fine.
Q: What languages do you support?
A: English and Italian currently, more to come soon
Q: What Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras do you support?
A: We have tested:
• SONY EVID 30,70,100
• SONY BRU 300, BRC 300
We should be able to support any camera that uses the VISCA standard, though sometimes it must be tuned as some cameras (like BOBO and MINRAY) do not support all VISCA functions. A VISCA connection is made using a serial cable connection to the camera, not using the same USB cable that connects the camera to the pc.
We have not yet implemented remote control of a USB-only PTZ camera (e.g. Logitech), but they use a Microsoft DirectX Library so it should be relatively easy to implement if desired
Q: Do people dial-in to a scheduled call?
A: If you use our integrated scheduler, people will be alerted via email, and then will get a pop-up at meeting time asking them to join. Alternately you can click to call for an unscheduled meeting
Q: What if someone doesn’t have VeaMea?
A: You can send them an email invitation that allows them to connect to you for a one-time meeting
Q: Do you have virtual meeting rooms?
A: Our system uses a Presence or buddy list that shows current availability of each contact. Rather than going to a virtual room (which may be in use just like a real room), select the contacts, click the call button and you are in a private meeting
Q: Are there administrative features?
A: We have a web-based IT administration console which allows you to set up user groups, roles, levels of privileges, profiles, features available to users, etc. Within a vcall/meeting, the person who initiated the call can add or drop participants and see meeting statistics.
Q: What platforms do you run on?
A: Today: Windows and iOS. Coming soon: Mac OSX and Android
Q: Do you connect to MS Lync? Google Chat?
A: Not currently as a direct connection, however we have done integration to Lync Web Services (When Lync was called OCS) so you can launch VeaMea video/audio/desktop sharing calls from the Lync presence list
